Scholarship Opportunities
Roy and Frances Valentine Family Scholarship
Provides an approximate $500 scholarship. The scholarship recipient(s) must be the child or grandchild of a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers (I.U.O.E.), Local #132.
- Child or grandchild of a member of I.U.O.E, Local #132
- Graduate of an accredited public or private school with a minimum “C” average
- Show evidence of acceptance to an accredited, licensed or certified post-secondary trade or technical school, junior college, four-year undergraduate college or university.
- Special emphasis will be given to those displaying personal attributes of hard work, dedication, high moral character and creativeness as evidenced in the lives of Roy and Frances Valentine and to those with financial or personal hardship.
This is a non-renewable scholarship; you must reapply during the next scholarship cycle if you wish to be considered for funding again.

Tri-State Building Trades/Tri-State Contractors Association Scholarship at Marshall University
The scholarship shall benefit a student who is a building tradesman or a dependent of a building tradesman, either currently employed, retired, or deceased, who is or was at the time of retirement or death a member of a Local Union affiliated with the Tri-State Building Trades Council. First priority shall be given to a student who is dependent of a deceased building tradesman or one who has been permanently disabled through a job-related accident.
Preference shall be given to dependents of tradesman whose Local Union has maintained a fifty percent (50%) attendance record at the regular monthly meetings of the Tri-State Building Trades Council over the past twelve (12) month period. The recipient must have an overall GPA of 2.5 and be a full-time student to be selected.

Lafe C. Chafin Scholarship
The scholarship shall support a student who is a building tradesman or a dependent of a building tradesman, either currently employed, retired or deceased, who is or was at the time of retirement or death a member of a Local Union affiliated with the Tri-State Building Trades Council.

Union Plus Scholarships
Current and retired members of participating unions, their spouses and their dependent children (as defined by IRS regulations). At least one year of continuous union membership by the applicant, applicant’s spouse or parent (if applicant is a dependent). The one-year membership minimum must be satisfied by May 31 of the scholarship year. See more details on eligibility in the tab below.
